Description

Sonata 5 – Suite –
for piano solo
by Anthony Newman (b.1940) – American composer, organist, pianist and conductor

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Fantasy; Allemande; Courante; Sarabande; Gigue; Fugue

composed in 1994, 24 pages

Either harpsichord or piano can be used in playing the Suite.

The opening Fantasia is modeled on the Chromatic Fantasia of Bach.

The following Courante is more typical of a French corrente.

And the Sarabande is indeed like a Bach sarabande,

The very large scale Gigue is much bigger then any baroque gigue and a real showpiece for the performer.
