The wonderfully subtle singer and actor Gary John switches to Spanish to, as he says in the introduction to one song, “share my fate with the poor people of the world.” Listeners will likely be surprised by his deft and caring rendition of these Spanish standbys, and by the overall feel of the album, which belies a moving intensity typical of Gary’s work in English. A rare gem.
